CAGED is a call to action and creative response to the loneliness epidemic that is worryingly prevalent across areas of the UK. Through a uniquely collaborative approach of community engagement, research and professional performance, Linden Dance amplifies the voices of those unheard, raising awareness of the epidemic through an accessible and empowering performance and providing safe spaces for communities to come together and explore creative movement.
The piece is an explosive, evocative dance experience following 4 characters on a journey of solitude to connectedness. Inspired by real life stories of isolation and set within, around and atop a 3m high birdcage, CAGED encourages a connected, diverse society. The four performers explore ambiguous worlds of entrapment and safety, a delicate balance that ultimately leads to feelings of hope and reconciliation.
The emotive themes are reflected in an athletic, daring physicality and a punchy soundtrack.

TOGETHERNESS
As part of CAGED, Linden Dance is delivering community activity to address and combat loneliness. This is part of the wrap around community activity used to gather the personal experiences that are presented within the work.
Togetherness was a creative intergenerational project in Wolverhampton that saw two schools (Stowlawn Primary School and Smestow Academy) be partnered with a care home each (East Park Care Home and Charnwood Care Home) over the course of 6 weeks. Through weekly sessions the students and residents came together to chat, share stories and to take part in creative movement.
Togetherness was kindly supported by HM Government’s and West Midland Combine Authority’s Commonwealth Legacy Fund.
