Unconsciously You is a dance and spoken word digital film exploring racial discrimination through unconscious bias. Themes of miscommunication, internal judgement, social pressure, cultural understandings and misunderstandings are expressed through vocal work, poetry and physical movement. The choreographers and performers, Christopher Radford and Sara Macqueen, explore their different cultural heritage and ethnicity, specifically how their appearances influence others’ perceptions of their actions or intent. The physicality is an interpretation of the chosen themes, supported by the fusion of their styles of Afro-fusion and Contemporary, accompanied by spoken word written by Sara Macqueen and a bespoke musical score created by Azizi Cole.
Unconsciously You was supported by Homegrown31 (with support from Creative Academies Network, Arts Council England and Esmee Fairburn Foundation).
